9 Simple Ways to Manage Your Energy in the Moment

Each and every day we are bombarded by all types of energy.  Left unchecked and unmanaged, our energy will move to the average level of all other energies we encounter.  Level 1 energy, or victim energy, is one of the lowest levels of energy we can express.  Although often useful to get us out of harms way, left unchecked it builds over time and as it builds, we tend to attract more people, places and things that resonate with this victim energy, and accordingly our own victim energy continues to grow.  Breaking the loop or pattern is key to managing your energy and continuing to resonate at higher energy levels, thereby attracting higher energy people, places and things into your life.  To maintain higher levels of energy or move yourself out of victim energy, practice the following simple in-the-moment steps:

1.     Count your blessings.  In trying to address the “what could go wrong” of any event, we can learn to focus mostly on what could go wrong and less on what could go right.  To change your perspective in the moment, focus on what is right.  Count your blessings name them one by one.  Be grateful. Gratitude focuses our attention on what is good, and when we are thinking about good things, we attract more of the same into our lives.

2.     Communicate.  Lack of communication about expectations often leads to lower energy outcomes and upset expectations.  Upfront, in-the-moment, clear communication is key to a meeting of minds and to maintaining higher levels of energy for all parties involved.  Communication often results in win-win solutions, where lack of communication results in win-lose.  Don’t be afraid to speak up.

3.     Be yourself.  Nothing raises your energy like being your authentic self.  Be you.

4.     Believe in yourself.  Seeking the validation of others leaves you at the whim of other peoples moods and opinions.  Focus on your own beliefs, skills and opinions and don’t seek in-the-moment validation from others.

5.     Trust your intuition.  Intuition is real.  We often connect with the energy of others and have a “gut feeling” that something is right or wrong, even if we cannot put our finger on it.  Go with this gut feeling.  Ask additional questions, and if it doesn’t feel right, walk away.

6.     Hydrate.  Lack of proper hydration can also lead to sleepiness, lack of energy, confusion or irritability, all lower energy feelings.  Drink water throughout the day.  Avoid excessive use of coffee and other drinks that ultimately lead to increased dehydration.

7.     Put your best foot forward.  Be prepared.  Look and feel good.  When are at our best, our confidence is boosted and our message gets across to our audience

8.     Be intentional.  Be intentional with what you say and do.  Focus on what you want.  Don’t overshare.  Meditate in the moment to be present.

9.     Take action.  Failure to take action out of fear or uncertainty only perpetuates that fear or uncertainty until action is taken.  Once action is taken, the fear or uncertain starts to reduce.  Taking small steps, or even the smallest step possible, is the best way to start the ball moving forward on your action plan.  Use AIM SMART to develop goals and strategies to assist you in following through on your action items!
